hodgepodge ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. this policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app and website at hodgepodge.social.

information we collect

we collect the following types of information:

• account information: your name, phone number, neighborhood, and profile photo when you create an account.
• usage information: hangs you attend or host, friends you make, and interests you add to your profile.
• communications: messages sent within the app, including group hang chats and direct messages.
• device information: basic device and app usage data for crash reporting and performance monitoring.
• phone number: collected to verify your identity via SMS verification code. hang notifications and other SMS messages are only sent if you separately opt in.

how we use your information

we use your information to:

• create and manage your hodgepodge account
• facilitate hang invitations and RSVP flows between hosts and guests
• send you one-time SMS verification codes for account authentication
• send you hang notifications and updates via SMS, if you have opted in
• show you your constellation (friends and satellites) within the app
• improve the app experience and fix bugs
• respond to your support requests

SMS communications

hodgepodge sends two types of SMS messages:

• verification codes: one-time codes sent when you sign in. these are transactional and required for authentication.
• notifications: hang invitations, RSVP confirmations, reminders, and friend notifications. these are only sent if you explicitly opt in via the checkbox provided during sign-up or in your account settings. opt-in is voluntary and not required to use hodgepodge.

message and data rates may apply. you can opt out of SMS notifications at any time by replying STOP to any message, or by updating your notification preferences in the app. for help, reply HELP or contact us at [email protected].

mobile opt-in data is never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

how we share your information

we do not sell your personal information. we share information only in the following circumstances:

• with other members: your name, neighborhood, interests, and profile photo are visible to hosts and co-guests at hangs you attend, in accordance with hodgepodge's trust-based social graph model.
• with service providers: we use Twilio for SMS delivery and Supabase for database and authentication services. these providers process your data only as needed to provide their services and are not permitted to use it for their own marketing purposes.
• when required by law: we may disclose information if required by applicable law or legal process.

data retention

we retain your account information for as long as your account is active. you can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at [email protected]. certain information may be retained as required by law.

security

we take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. your data is stored on Supabase's infrastructure with row-level security controls. SMS verification is handled via Twilio's secure APIs. no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

children's privacy

hodgepodge is not intended for users under the age of 18. we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. if we become aware that a user under 18 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly.

your rights

depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information. to exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected].

we may update this privacy policy from time to time. we will notify you of significant changes via the app or by SMS. continued use of hodgepodge after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
